Freshwater Assassin Jellyfish (or R. alces) are a species of freshwater cnidarians depicted in the game They Breathe. They inhabit flooded areas of forest, in which one mature adult roots to the bottom and produces numerous polyps.
Tissue Assimilation[]
This species, unlike most jellyfish, cannot use diffusion to get air into its body. This isn't a problem for R. alces, though, as they've lost that ability for a reason. They can fuse their flesh to the body of several freshwater animals and use their lungs/gills in order to breathe. They seem to have a preference for frogs.
Notes[]
- The tissue assimilation may have started as a defense mechanism by making the small subadults look bigger than they really were, back when they breathed using diffusion.
- The scientific name (Ranapellis alces) roughly translates to "frog-skinned moose" due to the mooselike appearance of most subadults
- It was believed for a while that R. alces had an insectoid hierarchies with a queen, workers, and drones. However, this was found to be false.
